Success story of Sundar Pichai


Sundar Pichai is also known as Sundarajan Pichai. He was born in Madurai, in the state of Tamil Nadu on July 12, 1972. His father Raghunath Pichai worked as an Electrical Engineer in General Electric in Chennai .His father was the manager of a factory that made components for electrical objects. The stories of the work challenges faced by his father always inspired Pichai. At the age of 12 he saw technology in his hands when his father brought a land line phone .His mother, Lakshmi was a stenographer.

Education & Career

He studies in Jawahar School at Ashok Nagar until his tenth class. Later he did his 12th from Vana Vani School at IIT Chennai. He took admission in IIT Kharagpur and completed his degree in Metallurgical Engineering. His teachers at IIT Kharagpur advised him to do Ph.D. from Stanford University but Sundar did his MS and MBA. He did his Master of Science from Stanford in material sciences and engineering. Later he completed his MBA from Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of management. After completing his studies, he worked in engineering and product management in Applied Materials. Later he worked as management consultant in Mckinsey & company. He joined Google in 2004 where he was given the responsibility of product development new idea generation. He played an important role in the development of Google Chrome, Chrome OS and Google Drive etc. He also played a pivotal role in application development of Gmail and Google maps. He presented Chrome OS on 19 Nov 2009 and chrome book was launched for research and development in 2011. It was launched for the customers in 2012. Pichai announced about Google video codec VP8 and its open sourcing. This video codec was presented in a new format WebM. He was given the responsibility of Android also in March 2013. Earlier Andy Robin was looking after Android. The year 2014 was in the news for Sundar being nominated as the next CEO.

The information to make Sundar as Google’s new CEO was given on 10 August 2015. But it had been decided earlier on 24 Oct 2014 by Google’s co-founder Larry Page. Pichai will take up his responsibility after the formation of Alphabet Inc.
